On June 9, 1933, she married Marion Bert Steers Jr. in Fall City, Washington. They moved to Big Eddy Park, just outside Vernonia, in 1941 and in 1944 to a farm to raise turkeys. Mr. Steers died in 1971.
Mrs. Steers opened the Vernonia Variety Store, where she accepted dry cleaning and floral arrangement orders, which she drove to Forest Grove. In 1972, she took over the Rose Motel.
Mrs. Steers was a member of the Coin Club and was secretary/treasurer of the Vernonia Senior Center and the Vernonia Society and Old Grads. She was a 75-year member of the Natal Grange 302. After retiring from work, she was a caregiver for Robert Spencer for more than five years. Mrs. Steers enjoyed arts and crafts and dancing at the Grange. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and M.C. Brewer, Clatskanie and Alice and Ronald Smith and Mary and Bill Cota, all of Vernonia; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Janet Carmichael, Edmonds, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace and a brother Bill. The family suggests memorial contributions to Washington County Hospice, 427 SE Eighth Avenue, Hillsboro, Oregon 97123.
